A man of honor will never show shameful cowardice, because honor in itself implies courage and dignity, and not weakness of spirit. Therefore, the behavior of a person who puts fear at the forefront, people do not approve. They often call him “dishonor,” that is, an act that runs counter to the moral foundations laid down in the concept of “honor”.
The hero from Pushkin’s Captain’s Daughter, Alexei Shvabrin, incinerated his whole life with cowardice. He could not achieve his goals, because he was constantly afraid of all worthy means and chose unworthy ones. For example, he was frightened of fair competition from Grinev and decided to deceive the gentleman of his beloved by discrediting her honest name. Peter and Alex for this reason clashed in a duel, but even there the young man used a dishonest reception and looked like a vile coward. No wonder Marya turned away from him. In addition to love failures, the hero failed his career, because he swore allegiance to the rebel and betrayed the Empress, again because of fear for his life. He is a symbol of a dishonorable man, because he cannot be trusted.
In the novel by Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin "Eugene Onegin", the protagonist agrees to a duel with his friend - Lensky. Vladimir calls him to battle because he is jealous of his bride to a friend who flirted with her. The protagonist does not apologize, but accepts an absurd challenge, but not because he really wants it. Although Eugene despises the society in which he is located and sincerely wants to change him, but, nevertheless, he himself obeys his foundations and rules. For fear of being condemned and misunderstood, he decides to betray friendship. The refusal of a duel and the request for forgiveness will forever be postponed by a dark spot on his reputation in the world. But after a tragic duel, the opinion of the environment will be such that Onegin is a brave and desperate fighter, although in reality he is simply a coward. He himself is aware of his dishonor, so he wanders around the world for a long time, unable to reconcile with himself.
Thus, cowardice and dishonor are one field of the berry, they always go hand in hand, because people never recognize weakness of spirit as a standard of honor. They are rightly attracted to the power that breeds courage, not fears and phobias. Honor is valor and courage; therefore, its opposite is cowardice.
