The Holy Mother of God wanted to pray to God, so that the archangel Michael would tell her about the torment of heaven and earth. Then Michael came down from heaven and with him four hundred angels. The virgin and the archangel greeted each other. Archangel Michael said that he does not list all the torments that exist. But the Virgin asked to tell about all torment.
Angels appeared from the south, hell broke out, and the Mother of God saw many tormented people. The archangel explained that these were pagans who deified the forces of nature and idols. In another place, the Virgin saw great darkness. At her command, the darkness cleared - there were people who did not believe in the incarnation of Jesus Christ, his birth from the Virgin. The Most Holy cried about the fate of sinners.
Angels led the Virgin to the south. There she saw a river of fire, and in it were many husbands and wives. These were people cursed by their parents, godfathers, quarreling among themselves and creating fornication. There were also cannibals and those who falsely swore, Kissing the cross. Then the Most Holy saw a man suspended by his legs — it was a loan shark. And next to her was a woman hanging by her teeth - she was a grumpy gossip girl.
Then the angelic armies led the Holy Virgin to the north. There she saw burning benches in the middle of a cloud of fire. They were sinners who, during their lifetime, were lazy to get up on Sunday morning. On the pillars of fire stood those who did not get up to meet the priests. A man was hanged by the arms and legs, who during his life served in the church and sold sacred vessels. Slanderers were suspended by their tongues.
An angel showed the Virgin to priests suspended by the edges of her nails. Serving the liturgy, they considered themselves worthy, and they themselves casually treated the prosviers. One husband was tortured by a winged serpent: this husband read holy books, taught people, and he lived illegally.
The Mother of God saw in hell patriarchs and bishops who were not worthy of their dignity. Then the angel showed her the tormented women: during their lifetime they were burrs and after the death of their husbands they got married again. Other women were also tormented by snakes and flames. These were nuns who indulged in fornication. Once again I saw the Most Holy River of Fire, and in it - as if blood flowed. Among its waters there were many people - adulterers, thieves, procurers, slanderers, unmerciful princes, silver loving people. The Mother of God cried at the sight of these torments.
Angels led the Virgin to the left. There was a tarry river, and its waves of fire. They suffered the Jews who crucified Christ, as well as all the nations who were baptized, but continued to believe in demons. There were incestors, poisoners, and infanticides.
Then Archangel Michael led the Virgin to the lake of fire, where Christians suffered. They were baptized, but continued to do evil deeds and before they died did not have time to repent.
The Mother of God told the archistratigus that she herself wants to accept flour together with sinners. But Michael said: "Be in Paradise." Then the Mother of God began to ask the angels to pray for the Lord to have mercy on the sinners. However, the angels prayed this day and night. The Mother of God asked to be lifted up to the height of heaven, to the throne of God. She began to beg God to have mercy on sinners. But the Lord did not fulfill her request. Then the Most Holy called the saints, and they began to pray with her. The Lord said that sinners should receive retribution. Angels and saints prostrated themselves before the throne of God. Then Christ came down from the throne, appeared to sinners and said that they should suffer, for they were called Christians only in words, but they did not keep the commandments of God. But for the sake of the prayers of the Virgin and all the saints, the Lord gave restless sinners rest from Great Thursday to Trinity Day. Sinners answered: “Glory be to your mercy.”
