: A student at a theological academy tells a biblical story to two women. Watching their reaction, he comprehends the connection of centuries and generations.
Ivan Velikopolsky, a student of the Theological Academy, the son of a deacon, is on his way home. It is getting dark, the weather is getting worse, it is becoming gloomy and deserted.
The student approaches the widowed gardens, where the old woman Vasilisa, together with her daughter Lukerya, built a fire. Ivan tells women the gospel story of how Jesus predicted that one of his disciples, Peter, would renounce him. Listening to the story, Vasilisa cries, and Lukerya, for no one knows why, is embarrassed.
Having said goodbye to women, Greater Poland keeps his way on. He reflects on the reaction of Vasilisa and her daughter to biblical history. He thinks that the old woman was moved not because he knows how to tell well, but because Peter and his emotional experiences have something to do with herself. The student concludes that all events of the past are connected with the present, they make sense to his contemporaries. A young man comprehends the connection of time.
